For the 2025 UEFA Nations League semi-final, Cristiano Ronaldo proved yet again why he's a legend of the game. At 40 years old and donning the captain's armband, Ronaldo scored his 137th international goal to help Portugal defeat Germany and secure a place in the final. This match marked his 220th cap for Portugal, further solidifying his record-breaking international career. Portugal fell behind early in the second half when Florian Wirtz, linked with Liverpool, opened the scoring for Germany.
However, Roberto Martinez's men turned things around swiftly. Francisco Conceição equalized, and shortly after, Ronaldo calmly finished to put Portugal ahead. That goal sealed the comeback, and Portugal held on to clinch a spot in Sunday’s final at Munich’s Allianz Arena. Ronaldo later took to social media with a simple yet powerful message: "ONWARDS PORTUGAL."
This isn’t unfamiliar territory for him; he also led Portugal to Nations League glory in 2019, finishing as top scorer then. Now, he’s on the verge of repeating that success. Portugal will face either France or Spain in the final, as they aim to lift the trophy once again. With Ronaldo still delivering on the biggest stage, Portugal’s hopes remain very much alive.
